Holidays > 1998 > 15 - 19 June: Cotswolds with Sean's Parents
Sean's parents, Avron and Myrtle, came to visit us for five days in 1998. It has taken me five years to complete this journal, as I couldn't find the original itinerary, so this is all done from a memory five years old.
Monday 15 June
- Avron, Myrtle and Sean arrived at 08:30 on their way back from Ireland.
- They spent the morning catching up on sleep, although I think I may have woken them up with the Waterboys album I was playing too loud. Sorry about that. I should have used headphones, but it took me a further two years to buy some.
- The afternoon and evening were spent catching up.
Tuesday 16 June
- I took them for a drive around the Cotswolds: [map]
Wednesday 17 June
- Warwick Castle [http://www.warwick-castle.co.uk].
- Explore the castle.
- Virtual reality tour.
- Full history.
- I can't remember exactly what we saw that day, as I have been there many times since with other Friends and Family from South Africa, but I think we saw:
- Stables - entrance
- Victorian rose garden
- Archer
- Court Jester
- Armoury
- Dungeon
- Torture Chamber
- Kingmaker - passage running under and through the castle with animal and human figures done by Madame Tussaudes.
- Battlements with Avron:
- Clarence Tower
- Guy's Tower
- Gatehouse and Barbican
- Caesar's Tower
- Chapel
- Great Hall
- State Rooms
- Ghost Tower
- Red Knight
- The Mount - the oldest part of the castle dating back to 1068.
- River Island
Thursday 18 June
- Watched "Twelfth Night" at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
- Longboat ride up and down the River Avon. Saw some of the actors in the theatre restaurant overlooking the river.
Friday 19 June
- Stratford Market.
- Avron, Myrtle and Sean then went on to visit Hertfordshire and Yorkshire.
We look forward to their next visit.
